Your account

Your Cyclop account

One account holds your licences, the machines you have activated, and your downloads. Here is what it does, how to sign in, and exactly what it records.

What the account is for

Community is free and needs no account to use. An account becomes useful the moment you buy an edition, because that is what connects a licence to the machines allowed to use it. From your account page you can:

  • see your licence, its edition and its expiry date;
  • see every machine you have activated, and free one you no longer use;
  • download the installation image.

Signing in during installation

The installer asks for your account before it asks which edition to install. Signing in there is what lets the machine unlock the software your edition includes, without you ever typing a licence key into the system.

  1. Start the installation and follow the steps to the account screen.
  2. Sign in with the same credentials you use on the website.
  3. Choose your edition on the next screen.

If you skip that step, the machine installs as Community. Nothing is lost: you can sign in later and the paid software becomes available then.

Seeing your edition on the machine

Open Settings and go to Cyclop Account. That page shows the edition installed, whether the licence is still recognised by the server, when contact was last made, and the identifier of this machine.

That identifier is worth knowing: it is how you tell your machines apart on your account page when several of them carry the same name.

What we record, and what we do not

Cyclop OS collects no usage data. We do not know which applications you open, which pages you visit, or where you are.

What a machine does send, when it activates and then roughly once a day, is limited to what a licence needs in order to mean something:

  • an identifier derived from the computer itself, so a licence sold for three machines runs on three;
  • its name, and rough specifications such as processor, memory and disk, so you can recognise it in your device list;
  • the date of the last contact, so an abandoned machine can be spotted.
A Community machine sends none of this. It has no licence to check, so it never contacts us at all beyond downloading updates like any other Linux system.

Forgotten password

Reset it from the sign-in page on the website. A machine already activated keeps working while you do: its access does not depend on you being signed in.
