What is Cyclop OS?

Cyclop OS is a lightweight, secure Linux-based operating system that brings old computers back to life. Built on a stable, long-term-supported base, with more than 100 packages we maintain, patch or brand ourselves, it is private by default and easy to use. Its services are hosted in the EU, and it is made for everyone.

Is Cyclop OS free?

Yes. The Community edition is completely free and open source, and it will never disappear. Paid editions (Education, Pro, Gaming and Enterprise) add extra software and support, starting at €12 per seat per year, VAT included, for schools.

Can Cyclop OS run on old or low-end computers?

Yes, as long as the machine has a 64-bit processor and 4 GB of RAM or more. The full list is on the system requirements page. It was made to give aging hardware a second life instead of replacing it.

What happens if your licence server is down, or if Cyclop stops?

Nothing changes on your machine. A paid edition only goes back to Community after a clear answer from our server saying the licence has ended, followed by 30 days of warnings (none for a refunded licence). A network error or a server that does not answer is never taken as that answer, so the edition and its apps stay as they are. Ubuntu updates keep coming from the Ubuntu archive; updates from our own repositories would stop.

Is Cyclop OS secure and private?

Yes. Your disk and DNS are encrypted by default, the firewall is on, and there is no hidden telemetry and no data sold to advertisers. Privacy is enabled out of the box.

What editions are available and how much do they cost?

Community is free. Education is €12 per seat per year, Pro is €48 a year, and Gaming is €60 a year, VAT included. Enterprise is on quote. Paid editions are bought online by card. Every paid edition adds its own software on top of the free base.

How do I install Cyclop OS?

Download the free image from cyclop-tech.com, write it to a USB drive, then follow the guided installer. Our documentation walks you through every step, and paid editions include email support.

Can I keep using the programs I already rely on?

In most cases, yes. Cyclop OS includes built-in compatibility so you can keep many of the tools you already use, and you can switch the desktop layout in one click so it feels instantly familiar.

What kind of support do I get?

The Community edition is supported by the community and our documentation. Paid editions include email support, with a first reply within two working days, and updates for as long as the licence runs. You can also reach us through the contact page on cyclop-tech.com.
