Editions
Four editions, one system.
The same Cyclop OS underneath, always. An edition is a licence that opens a software repository of its own on top of the free base. Here is what each one really adds, and how to change your mind later.
What an edition is, and what it is not
Every machine runs the same system. The Community base is what the installer writes to the disk, whatever you bought.
A paid edition is a licence that opens a repository of its own, layered on that base, holding the packages that edition ships. It does not replace your system with a different one, and it takes nothing away.
Community, free
The desktop and its four layouts, the themes, the wallpapers, Cyclop Settings, Cyclop Store and its whole catalogue, the updates. No time limit and no trial period.
It is a real edition, not a demonstration. Plenty of machines will never need anything else.
Education, 10 EUR a year
For schools and universities. It adds the security set (firewall configured from the first boot, kernel hardening for a desktop, a resolver that sells nothing, a tracker block list, and security updates applied without asking), Cyclop Office, Cyclop Performance, Cyclop Connect, support for applications written for other operating systems, and the Timeshift snapshot preset.
Pro, 39 EUR a year
For small businesses, startups and independent professionals. Everything Education has, plus the animated wallpaper.
It also carries email support, with a first answer within two working days.
Gaming, 49 EUR a year
Everything Pro has, plus Cyclop Gaming: checking a title before you buy it (whether it is known to run, and whether its anti-cheat allows it), installing Steam, Lutris and Proton-GE, controllers, and a game library with its cover art.
The 32-bit architecture is enabled at installation on this edition, because a number of games still need it.
Enterprise, on a quote
For large organisations and public bodies, priced per seat and quoted. Write to sales@cyclop-tech.com and say how many machines, and what you have to comply with.
Pro and Gaming are siblings, not steps
A Gaming licence does not open the Pro repository, and a Pro licence does not open the Gaming one. They sit side by side. Buying Gaming is not buying Pro and more.
Change edition after the install
Nothing is decided for good at install time.
- Buy the licence in your account on cyclop-tech.com
- On the machine, open Settings, then Accounts, then Subscription
- Press Activate this computer. The button only appears when the licence has a seat free
- The repository and its credential are written, and the edition packages install
The other direction works the same way. Release this computer’s seat hands the seat back and returns this machine to Community. The packages already installed stay until they are removed or replaced.
What you should see when it worked
The Subscription page names your edition, the date it renews, and how many seats of the licence are in use. Pages of Settings that were greyed out stop being greyed out.
If it does not work
- The Activate button never appears: the licence has no free seat. Free one from your account, then come back.
- The machine has no network: activation talks to the licence server, and there is no way around that. Connect it and try again.
- You bought Gaming and a Pro package is missing: they are siblings. That package is not in your repository.
