Support lifecycle

How long a version of Cyclop OS is supported

The rule is short, and the dates below follow from it.

The policy

Each major version of Cyclop OS is supported until the next major version ships, plus 12 months. It is never supported beyond the end of standard support of the Ubuntu LTS it is built on.

Versions

Cyclop OS 4.0
Base: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (noble), GNOME 46. Released in 2026. Supported until 12 months after 5.0 ships, and at the latest until the end of standard support of Ubuntu 24.04 (May 2029).
Cyclop OS 5.0
Base: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. In preparation, no date announced.
Cyclop OS 3.x
Base: Ubuntu 22.04 (jammy). No longer supported, please upgrade to 4.0.

Patches

Security and bug-fix patches ship roughly every week, and two weeks at most. This applies to every edition, including the free Community edition.

What supported means

  • Security updates for Ubuntu packages come from the Ubuntu archive. Cyclop does not replace that work.
  • Cyclop packages (the desktop, Settings, the installer, the apps we make) are maintained by Cyclop.
  • The paid editions add support by e-mail. Community has the forum and Discord.

Still on 3.x?

Version 4.0 is the supported one. The install guide covers a fresh install.
